the summer when i was about 10 i found some interesting caterpillars in the hills behind my house... as there was construction going on i collected a few. when i looked them up in the encyclopedia and found they were a protected species i went back to the hills and collected every one i could find. in total i gathered 410! they were the most beautiful caterpillars i had ever seen... the monarch's. i spent the next several weeks collecting fresh milkweed plants every day to put into the large tank i was holding them in. they ate and ate and ate. one morning some changed into their quiet green and gold cases where they would morph into the outstanding orange and black butterflies that we love so well. soon all were in their chrysalis hanging from the sticks i'd placed and along the roof of the tank...yup all 410! it was a marvelous day when they all seemed to hatch within a few hours of each other and pumping their wings would soon be ready to fly. it was august and the air was starting to turn the geese beginning to fly and it seemed all at once when i lifted the cover of the tank all 400 rose as if one orange cloud and sailed over to the topmost branches of our willow trees, rested and then flitted away. i had spent a good many weeks nurturing these creatures with a great reward and had only lost 10 in the process \

SATURDAY MORNING
Saturdays are…
Sleep and sleep and sleep
Then to wake fully rested and on my own accord.
Are; farmer’s markets, early bank lines that empty in seconds.
Sidewalk sales, garage sales, yard sales
buying that whatzit for pennies.
Drives to the beach and out on country roads.
Winds easing over the meadows.
Meadow lark and bobolink
Red tail hawk
Dead foxes on the road.
Flags flapping
Sitting street side at cafĂ©’s
In the gentle heat of the early morning.
Nutty coffee smells, warm chocolate croisant.
Big fluffy popcorn clouds zimmering
Across the blue blue blue.
Kids yelling, kids laughing.
Dogs barking
Stay away, stay away.
Digging in the garden
Cutting the grass
Splash in the wading pool.
Ah…. That’s cool.

sending out today's zen jenn moment...
it was a cool fresh summer night and as in the evenings before, i had heard the loons call out on the lake. it seems they were voicing their plaintive calls at about the same time of the evening each night. so on this night i headed for the dock and sat as the sun slowly faded, awaitng the thrill trill of their call... braving and swatting the army of mosquitos who would have me for supper i was rewarded for my bravery. as at about nine thirty i heard the call. rising from the darkening sky, flying overhead circling around the lake and then was gone. primal. northern. canadain.

i saw the sun make her rise today. in the pre dawn shadow i sat in the grass on the highest spot in northumberland. foxes and song birds heralding the anticipated event. coyote yip and howl. the pines waving in the new day sighing in the breeze. waxwing in their numbers congregate in the topmost branches nibbling and conversing with eachother. the dawn chorus reaching a pitch as in each moment the sky brightens,a rim of golden peach backlights the clouds.. it's coming, it's coming, the new day! scent of pine, clover, skunk waft in the morning air. a murder of crows sail by. overhead they caw, in the distance others answer. the colour in the east lightens, the golden turns from orange to yellow. the great ball of fire lifts from the horizon. warm. glowing. fresh. a fox barks and runs from safety across the meadow of flowers, swift and red. a dragonfly hovers overhead then zooms on it's way to a nearby pond. a soft breeze warms. a golden serge and the newness of this day gives thought to new beginnings in life.
GOOD day to all... just starting up my new blog... other zen jenn stuff'. so well i guess we won't know where we will go from here... i hope to share with you my views through vids or pics and words. i encourage all positive feed back input and opinions. my blog mission is to promote a moment of good into life. all doors lead somewhere so keep things positve when you write in and let's get started: jenn
